We all make mistakes from time to time, but some of us come a little
closer to perfection. Francis Howell North (FHN) High School has so many
bright students learning within its walls. James Dohrman, however,
stood out among his peers by becoming one of the few in the country who
earned a perfect score on his American College Testing (ACT) exam.
“James
is a fantastic young man,” FHN Principal Andy Downs said. “He is
extremely intelligent, and we are very proud of him and his
accomplishment.”
The ACT is a standardized assessment
taken by high school students to measure achievement for college
admissions. The average score nationally is around 20 to 21. James
scored a perfect 36.
James is the son of Rebecca and Greg
Dohrman, and doesn’t shy away from taking the tough classes. He has
been recognized as an Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar (click here to
read about that); and is currently taking several AP classes, including
English Literature Composition, Statistics, Calculus BC Physics II, and
World History. He’s also in gifted classes, as well as taking Pre-AP
Spanish III. His grades? You guessed it – all A’s.
Over
the summer, James graduated from the prestigious STARS program, or
Students and Teachers as Research Scientists program, at the University
of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Click here for an article about his
experience with STARS.
James is also deeply involved in
the robotics club in FHSD, Raven Robotics, a team which has accomplished
much and is comprised of students from all high schools in the
District. You can read about Raven Robotics by clicking here. Dohrman
has also integrated his talents into National Honor Society and the
Science Club at FHN.
