Dedication is a word often used to describe the Francis Howell North (FHN) Knightline dance team. The team has been working hard since May to help ensure a successful season. In January the Knightline girls displayed their talent at the Chicagoland Dance Competition, where the team brought home some big wins. The Junior Varsity team received 3rd place in Hip Hop and 8th in Jazz, and the Varsity team won 1st place in both Hip Hop and Jazz! Choreography and execution are what wins these competitions, according to Coach Tammy Rokita. She says the creativity and entertainment value of the Knightline’s routines showed the judges’ why they deserved to be the #1 dance team at the competition.

The routines require a lot of effort on the part of these student-athletes. The team members have to fit in training along with school responsibilities, game performances, and other competitions. But with their talent and dedication, the team was able to overcome these challenges.  With warmups, stretching, strength and conditioning, dance techniques, and many rehearsals, Coach Rokita says practices are intense, but the girls work hard and enjoy their time together.

The Knightline season hit another high note in February, when the team travelled to Disney World to take part in in the UDA National Dance Team Championships. Competing against the best teams from across the country, the Varsity Knightline finished 12th in the nation in Small Varsity Jazz!

At the end of the year, the Knightline will say goodbye to six talented seniors. Coach Rokita thinks it will be hard, because these team members did so much to help grow the Knightline program. She says the seniors and their families have been extremely dedicated, and it will be weird not having them around. FHSD wishes these girls luck in the future!
