Francis Howell North (FHN) High School’s Jacob Lintner recently returned from the program’s latest conference with a special honor. Lintner was named the Journalism Education Association (JEA) Student Journalist of the Year for Missouri, and also finished as a runner-up in the national competition. It’s the culmination of an extraordinary high school career, as well as the continuation of an inspired legacy.
FHSD Receives Recertification for Project Lead The Way Engineering Program

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) high schools have received national recertification for the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Engineering program, which has been offered in the District since 2010. PLTW is a nonprofit organization that provides a transformative learning experience for students and teachers.
Forty Students to Represent FHSD at the DECA International Competition

Forty students from the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) high schools will represent the District in the International DECA Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California, from April 26-29, 2017. This includes 23 students from Francis Howell High School (FHHS), 10 students from Francis Howell North (FHN), and 7 students from Francis Howell Central (FHC). DECA’s programs and activities develop skills for careers in marketing, hospitality, finance, and management for students in high schools and colleges worldwide.
FHSD Honors Seniors with a 4.0 and above Grade Point Average at Annual Luncheon

The Francis Howell School District honored 231 graduating seniors from Francis Howell High (FHHS), Francis Howell Central (FHC), and Francis Howell North (FHN) high schools at a special luncheon held in their honor at Old Hickory Golf Club on Friday, April 7. This group of FHSD seniors achieved a grade point average of 4.0 or above.

Wednesday, April 5, was the fifth and final Senior PALS (Patrons Assisting and Lending Support) event of the 2016-17 school year. More than two dozen senior residents of the Francis Howell School District attended, who were treated to a 1950s-themed diner dinner and the Francis Howell North (FHN) theater production of “Grease.”
FHSD High School Publications Star in New TV Show

Media and journalism students in Francis Howell School District (FHSD) always seem to be making headlines. Students at all three high schools, as well as the programs they make so great, have been winning national awards and earning country-wide recognition for their work. Community members in FHSD know how great these students are, but now, thanks to Lindenwood University (LU) and their television department, a larger audience will know what FHSD media and fine arts students and programs have to offer. LU’s professional-caliber television station, LUTV, has a new show called “Millennial Media,” which highlights the work of FHSD media and journalism students.
Gateway2Change Student Summit on Race

On March 10, student leaders from FHSD’s high schools took part in the final Gateway2Change Student Summit on Race of the school year at St. Louis University. When Gateway2Change met last November, prominent local businesses and organizations outlined the challenges they face in the areas of social and cultural diversity and equity. During the summit, student leaders presented their ideas and solutions to these real-world problems.

On Friday, Jan. 27, the FBLA District Competition was held at Chesterfield Mall. The Missouri FBLA District competitions draw more than 11,000 of the greatest minds in high school business from across the state.
A Great Season for the Knightline Dance Team

In January the Knightline girls displayed their talent at the Chicagoland Dance Competition, where the team brought home some big wins.

To have success in the American Legion Oratorical (ALO) Contest, a student must not only understand many of the concepts of the United States Constitution, but also have the wisdom to communicate those concepts. Francis Howell North (FHN) High School’s Uma Upamaka, only a freshman, already has the wisdom and understanding to take the ALO Contest by storm. She has won a couple competitions already, qualifying her for the state finals.

FHSD’s Inaugural Job Fair for Students is Well-Attended

On Jan. 11, 2017, Francis Howell School District (FHSD) hosted its inaugural Job Fair for high school students, and the evening was a tremendous success. Thirty-two businesses and 357 students participated in an event that was the ideal introduction for students to the workforce. From practicing their interview and resume-writing skills to just learning how to dress to impress a potential employer, both students and area businesses got a return on their investment. Better-prepared students mean better employees, which means better business and better communities. It was more than practice; it was a practice in success.

FHSD Journalism Students Continue to Make the Cover

Several Francis Howell School District (FHSD) students were among the many attendees from around the country at the Journalism Educators Association (JEA)/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Nov. 10-13. Awards were taken home by students, further validating the outstanding publication departments at all three high schools in FHSD.
FHN Senior Awarded Scholarship for Engineering by Hispanic Heritage Foundation

Francis Howell North senior, Peyton Rives, received a silver award from The Hispanic Heritage Foundation. He was one of 21 award recipients at the Chicago regional Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards ceremony on November 3. As the silver medalist in the engineering category, sponsored by ExxonMobil, Rives was awarded a $2,000 scholarship to support his plans to pursue a degree in Biological Engineering at University of Michigan.
FHN’s Peter Lucido Wins State Diving Championship and MO Diver of the Year

His dedication to diving and his team just helped him make a splash in Missouri’s diving ranks, where he won the State Diving Championship, as well as Missouri Diver of the Year honors.
FHSD Hosts Activities Leadership Summit

During fall break in the Francis Howell School District (FHSD), most students took a breather from their hectic schedules of homework, testing, and other school activities to recharge their proverbial batteries for the rest of the semester. But one group took special advantage of their days off, with 20 members from each high school getting together at Francis Howell North (FHN) High School to become better leaders in their communities. They listened to guest speakers and took part in activities to learn more about what it takes to improve their teams or clubs, schools, and community.
Nineteen FHSD Students Named National Merit Commended Scholars and Semifinalists

A total of 19 Francis Howell School District (FHSD) students have been recognized for their academic achievement by being named National Merit Commended Scholars and National Merit Semi-Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). NMSC announced the names of approximately 16,000 semifinalists during their annual event in September, and these high achievers now have the opportunity to move on in the competition for a chance to receive one of 7,500 scholarships, totaling more than $33 million, which will be offered to the winners next spring.

James Dohrman, however, stood out among his peers by becoming one of the few in the country who earned a perfect score on his American College Testing (ACT) exam.
FHN Hosts Special Olympics Softball Tournament

The Francis Howell Special Olympics (FHSO) wants to make sure that no one gets left in the crowd, no matter their ability or experience with sports. And on Oct. 1, groups of thrilled athletes came to Francis Howell North (FHN) High School fields for a Special Olympics softball tournament.
New FHSD Safety Measures Include Unannounced Intruder Drills

Student safety is always a top priority of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD). The District annually conducts a variety of safety drills including fire, tornado, earthquake and intruder drills. Participation in these safety drills is where most students get directly involved in their own safety. New this year, FHSD will conduct one unannounced intruder drill at each of our schools.

Teachers inspire students to reach for the stars, to never limit themselves in what they can achieve. Best-selling young adult author Jennifer Mathieu came to Francis Howell North (FHN) High School to do just that. Mathieu isn’t just an author, however. She’s also a teacher. Though she came to talk about her books, it was the author’s story that became a lesson in the writing process.

FHSD Recognized for Bus Safety

The buses that safely transport students of the Francis Howell School District (FHSD) every day will display a special new sticker starting in August, after earning the “Total Fleet Excellence” distinction for 2016. The stickers indicate excellence in the overall maintenance and reliability of the District’s bus fleet. The distinction is determined by the Missouri State Highway Patrol based on the results of the annual school bus inspection, a program conducted by the Patrol’s Motor Vehicle Inspection Division.
FHSD Fosters Leadership Through Sports – FHSD High School’s named MSHSAA Leadership Schools

It’s an award created to honor sportsmanship and leadership in school. And if it’s something that FHSD sports has been known to exhibit, it is sportsmanship.
Transition Day welcomes sixth and ninth-graders to new school year

The new school year marks the beginning of another chapter for students, especially for sixth and ninth-graders, as they will walk down unknown hallways on their first day of middle and high school. For FHSD students, however, getting used to the new environment is made a little easier during Transition Day. This year students had the chance to get a first look at their new school buildings during FHSD Transition Day on Aug. 4, 2016.
